The Challenge

Despite having been told repeatedly that he needed to improve his conflict management skills, Peter did nothing. Finally, after undergoing a formal assessment using a validated tool, Peter accepted the feedback and acted to develop new skills.

Gracefully receiving developmental feedback is hard to do. If an employee feels the assessment is subjective, they're likely to challenge the feedback. Using formal, validated, assessment tools can help the employee move from defensive to acceptance. Multi-rater assessments (360 Degree feedback) can also be helpful in this regard.
